Former apprentice celebrates cyber success

Jason McNicholas from Workington is celebrating passing his Cyber Security apprenticeship at Indelible Data.

The 21-year-old seemed destined for a career in information technology after getting his first computer aged just four.

Jason said: “I didn’t want to go to university and found out about the Cyber Security Technologist Apprenticeship at Energus on Facebook.

“I’d already done a Level 3 Advanced Diploma in IT and without that, I wouldn’t have had the background I needed for Cyber Security, which is what I really wanted to do.”

Jason was selected following a rigorous assessment process followed by interview at Indelible Data.

During the two-year apprenticeship, he was mentored by Managing Director Tony Wilson.

“It was like having one-to-one support,” said Jason. “Tony has years of experience and I could ask him questions that might have been outside the syllabus and he always knew the answer.”

Since completing the apprenticeship in September, Jason has accepted a permanent position as a Cyber Security Technologist at Indelible Data.

From being nervous about answering the phone to clients, he has built the confidence to visit client sites on his own.

“My mum said I was like a different person because my confidence has grown so much over the last two years,” Jason added.

“I love being on client sites. I know what I’m doing and I’m trusted.”

Indelible Data Ltd is a Cyber Essentials Certification Body and as well as offering Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus assessments, the company delivers cyber security training and GDPR consultancy.
