Prepare for Windows 10 end of support

Indelible Data offers a range of packages for Cyber Essentials certification.

Windows 10 will reach end of life in October 2025 unless you have purchased extended support, Microsoft has revealed. This will mean users will have to update to Windows 11 says Cyber Compliance Technician Aidan Collins.

For some, this will force the purchase of new hardware as many devices cannot run the upgraded operating system due to the stringent requirements to upgrade, mainly centred around the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) which is not present in many older devices. The full requirements of Windows 11 can be found here.

While no new feature updates will be released beyond Windows 10 22H2, monthly security updates will continue until the end of support date in 2025. We urge those running Home and Pro to update to 22H2 as soon as possible, to avoid falling out of compliance on their Cyber Essentials submission.

Windows 11 was initially released in October 2021 and its Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) will become available for the Enterprise version in 2024.

Windows 10 LTSC will continue to receive updates beyond October 2025 based on the specific life cycles of the package purchased, Microsoft has said i.e. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 will not reach its end of support until January 2027.

Depending on the size of your organisation, it is advisable to plan and budget in good time to ensure all corporate devices can support Windows 11, to avoid being caught out closer to the deadline.

Cyber Essentials can help you audit your business for unsupported software, as well as making sure proper processes and policies are in place.
